On the notion that religion brainwashes...
Is anyone really a "free thinker"?
There is no avoiding "brainwashing". Religion is NOT the only method used to influence thoughts and ultimately behavior... We are all constantly being told many non-religious things as well..which forms our secular beliefs..
Non-religious people do not posses independence of thought.
They are just as much "brainwashed" as the next person (none of us is completely isolated from outside influences..We are all "brainwashed" if you will).....
Some of us are influenced by religion, education, popular public opinions, our peers/society at large or our ethnic/racial group, the media, secular philosophy, etc..
Most people probably believe they are NOT brainwashed.....that they are somehow uninfluenced by external aspects simply because they challenge one set of popular beliefs in favor of another....that is why one can easily accuse another of being "brainwashed" while completely ignoring the fact that they too have been leaded to believe in the ideology they profess/accept..
There is "nothing new under the sun"....There is nothing truly inventive in existence . Every learning has precedent from the past.... We're just recycling "knowledge" (or what is believed to be)..
Many of the non-religious attempt to convert religious people into
thinking as they do..while of course claiming to be against conformity and brainwashing.
Pure objectivity is an illusion. What you believe (think)..you have
been lead too. Perception of interpretation, beliefs, ideology, and religion is rooted in some preliminary perspective. You should never trust anyone who hasn't even lived 1,000 years, when claiming to KNOW
("figured out" truth, which is older than billions of years).
The mental contents of our minds can be manipulated by OUR OWN faculties and deposits. We are constantly taken in new information (both "simple/basic" & "complex")
which needs to be process/interpret through OUR various mental
capacities/capabilities. What about human intelligence and how it
functions? We do not all perceive, retain, understand, and apply
For NOW (keyword:now..as we live on this earth) we see through a glass, darkly; but THEN (Keyword is then)face to face:
NOW I know in part (our understanding will ALWAYS be limited in the "NOW");
but THEN shall I KNOW even as also I am known.
There is more wisdom in KNOWING you don't KNOW (now), than THINKING you know (now).
If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know.
